Snowshoeing Holidays in the French Alps

In winter as in summer, La Giettaz is a fantastic place to be based if you enjoy hiking. Snowshoeing in the region offers the chance to take advantage of the clean air and the Narnia-like forests and mountains whilst they lie under a blanket of snow. What's more, the snowshoe trails allow you to access places you'd rarely get to on skis, giving you a fresh perspective and total tranquility. Snowshoeing is also a great way to keep in shape - from gentle walking on maintained flat paths to hiking up through untracked deep powder, the sport burns twice as many calories as doing the same pace exercise on normal ground and helps develop strength, balance and endurance.

There are a number of marked trails around Le Plan ski area and snowshoes can be hired there as can ESF guides for the local walks.

Guided Snowshoe Holidays

If you would like to fully explore the many off-the-beaten path routes in the region, we are delighted to be able to offer you guided snowshoe excursions with Mark Tennent, a highly qualified and experienced International Mountain Leader. Mark is fluent in both English and French and is a nearby resident, meaning he is able to offer you a great insight into local culture as well as guiding you around the mountains. Having spent many years working in Mountain Rescue in the UK, you can be sure you are in safe hands with him.

Mark is available for full or half day bookings, and we are also delighted to offer dedicated weekend, long weekend and week-long snowshoe holidays.  As with all our guests, this can be on a full board (packed lunches), half board or self-catered basis, or a mixture of all of them - it's up to you. Walks are typically around 5 hours, which includes time to have lunch and photo stops - and don't forget, our bar and spa will be waiting for you on your return each day!

A typical week-long itinerary might include:

Walk 1 - La Giettaz - Roc du Charbonnier - Sentier Michel - Le Chapel

Walk 2 - Foiroux - Chalet du Cure

Walk 3 - Col des Aravis

Walk 4 - Circuit of the Chard du Beurre (Les Saisies)

Walk 5 - Dep Le Planay - Refuge de Petit Tetraz

Walk 6 - Col de la Croix Fry

Mark is able to adapt the itinerary to suit your needs and wishes and, of course, will always keep an eye on snow conditions and weather to ensure you have an enjoyable and safe experience.
