As any cycling fan will confirm, the French Alps are the Nou Camp, the Old Course, Yankee Stadium and Centre Court rolled into one: mythical terrain where the sport's champions show off their incredible talents. La Giettaz is right at the heart of it, located only 4km from the famous Col des Aravis, which has featured on the route of Le Tour de France no less than 39 times, most recently in 2016. Chalet La Giettaz is an ideal base for cyclists of all levels who wish to experience these iconic mountain roads for themselves.
"An amazing set-up in a lovely village... a wonderful spot in the Alps... go there" Richard Moore, The Cycling Podcast, July 2016
The area is hugely popular with amateur cyclists, and we are delighted to help you plan the perfect Alpine cycling holiday with routes of varying levels of difficulty, according to your requirements. In addition to the Col des Aravis, the Chalet is also within striking distance of many superb climbs, such as the Col de la Croix-Fry, the Col des Saisies, the Cormet de Roseland, the Plateau des Glières and the Col de la Colombière. And many more legendary Tour de France challenges, including the Col de la Madeleine, Col de Joux-Plane, Col du Glandon and Col de Galibier are all within a couple of hours' drive.
"Perfect for cyclists" Tripadvisor review of Chalet La Giettaz, July 2015
Less arduous routes can be found around the shores of Lake Annecy, which has a superb cycle path - piste cyclable - running the entire length of one side of the lake and on to Ugine (35km in total), with plenty of places to stop for refreshments along the way. Work is under way to extend the cycle path along the west side of the lake and complete the loop; for now the section on the road is relatively quiet and well-marked.
You can find a selection of the most interesting routes from the chalet, with downloadable GPS files to follow, on Ride With GPS.

Our dedicated Cycling Packages can cater for groups of up to 20 cyclists, and include an enhanced breakfast package and carb-rich evening meals to give you plenty of fuel for those tough days in the mountains. Airport transfers can be arranged, and we'll also help with bike hire if you prefer not to bring your own bike with you*.
Vehicle support is also available on each ride, either as part of one of our packages or on an ad-hoc basis. In the morning, we load our vehicle with your spare kit as well as plenty of water and snacks to keep you going, and we'll either follow you as you ride or meet you at a pre-arranged point along the route. This also gives you the peace of mind to know that if something goes wrong on the road, we've got your back and you won't be far from help.
Please get in touch via the contact form if you would like any more details about our cycling packages and prices for vehicle support.
