Children at Chalet La Giettaz

Children are always welcome at Chalet La Giettaz. We offer safe and comfortable accommodation for kids of all ages, with plenty of great facilities and services to keep them occupied. After all, we understand that the key to a great family holiday is making sure the kids are happy – and if the parents get some free time to enjoy themselves then that’s a bonus!  What's more, you can be sure that your kids will have an authentic French experience when you come to Chalet La Giettaz: we are a traditional mountain village, not a custom-built resort.

In the Chalet

We pride ourselves on having all the essentials for your kids, including cots, high chairs, bottle sterilisers and stair gates, all available to borrow at no extra charge.

We also have an extensive selection of toys, books, games, DVDs and video games to keep kids (and adults) occupied in the Chalet, again all available free of charge.

Kids are welcome to use the spa facilities, as long as an adult is supervising, although please be aware that the sauna is not recommended for under 5s, on medical grounds. In the summer we have a paddling pool on the terrace outside the spa. 

Baby monitors are at your disposal if you’d like to come and enjoy a drink in the bar in the evening, or if you’d like to venture further afield then we can organise a local babysitter to come and look after the kids while you’re out.

Skiing and Snowboarding Lessons

The local ESF ski school at Le Plan runs children's lessons daily throughout the season. Prices are very good value in comparison to some of the larger French resorts, and the quiet local pistes mean your kids will learn the ropes very quickly. Our ESF instructors are locals and our friends and they really care about kids. Lessons can be booked for kids of 3-4 upwards. Reservations in advance are recommended, particularly if you require an English-speaking instructor: please ask us for more details and we’ll happily pop down to the school to make the necessary arrangements for you.

Crèche Facilities

The crèche at Le Plan operates throughout the ski season. The friendly staff have had rave reviews from all our guests who have used them and repeat bookings, so you can be sure that your kids will be happy and well looked-after while you are skiing. The crèche is right beside the ski lift, and the English-speaking staff will even collect your kids from their ski lessons. When not skiing, kids are taken to play in the snow garden (age 1 upwards) and sledging. If it's snowing heavily, the kids paint pictures, bake cakes and play with toys indoors. Both the crèche and ski school staff understand that we all have our off days and that sometimes we need to get indoors and have a hot chocolate and a bit of pampering - that's why our youngest guests love them! 

Summertime

Summertime in La Giettaz is great fun for kids and parents. As well as there being a playground and mini golf (with kids trampoline) in the village, there is also a small waterfall that is easy walking distance and is a safe and fun place for them to paddle. All of the villages in the surrounding region offer play areas with bouncy castles or trampolines that are easy to stop at along the way to an activity or to the supermarket. A favourite place for many guests is the local swimming lake at Flumet - it's just 10 minutes drive from the Chalet, is set in beautiful surroundings, and has a large playground that kids of all ages just love. 

Our youngest guests have enjoyed a variety of activities, including watching the animals being fed and milked at the local farm, taking the train up to the spectacular 'Mer de Glace' and walking through the colourful ice caves, pedalos on Lake Annecy, crossing over stepping stones in the mountain streams, pony rides, and whizzing down the summer luge in the safe embrace of mum or dad!

Baby carrier backpacks can be hired in the village, and cable cars run in July and August, meaning there's nothing stopping guests of any age from accessing off-the-beaten track walks and spectacular views. 

Most importantly, this part of the world offers a peaceful, friendly, and pollution-free environment in which kids can have fun, find adventure, get involved with the great outdoors and even learn some French and Geography - it's amazing how much they pick up in a week's holiday!
