Cycling Holidays in La Giettaz
As any cycling fan will confirm, the French Alps are the Nou Camp, the Old Course, Yankee Stadium and Centre Court rolled into one: mythical terrain where the sport's champions show off their incredible talents. La Giettaz is right at the heart of it, located only 4km from the famous Col des Aravis, which has featured on the route of Le Tour de France no less than 39 times, most recently in 2010. Chalet La Giettaz is an ideal base for cyclists of all levels who wish to experience these iconic mountain roads for themselves.
The area is hugely popular with amateur cyclists, and we are delighted to help you plan routes of varying levels of difficulty, according to your requirements. In addition to the Col des Aravis, the Chalet is also within striking distance of the Col de la Croix-Fry, the Col des Saisies, the Cormet de Roseland and the Col de la Colombière. Legendary Tour de France climbs, such as the Col de la Madeleine, Col de Plaine Joux, Alpe d'Huez and the Col du Galibier are all within a couple of hours' drive.
Less arduous routes can be found around the shores of Lake Annecy, which has a superb cycle path running the entire length of one side of the lake and on to Ugine (35km in total) and plenty of places to stop for refreshments along the way.
Each apartment has its own secure walk-in storage cupboard, so you can bring your own kit with you. We also have a selection of tools available for tuning up between rides. Group bookings are always welcome at the chalet.
Cycle hire is available in La Giettaz (including electric bikes) or in many of the villages in the area.
And don’t forget, our hot tub and sauna will be waiting for you to relax those aching muscles at the end of each day!
A number of cycling events are taking place in the area during summer 2013:
Le Tour de France
The Tour de France is no stranger to La Giettaz, having passed us as recently 2010, as you can see from the fantastic pictures on this page. The 2013 route passes within 10km of the chalet on Friday 19th July on its way from the Col de la Croix-Fry to La Clusaz and on to the stage finish in Grand Bornand. The following day's stage around Annecy is also within easy reach of the chalet.
L'Etape du Tour 2013
The Annecy stage of the Tour has been chosen for the only scheduled Etape du Tour sportive for 2013. This event will take place on Sunday 7th July and, as mentioned above, is within easy reach of the chalet. Look out for details of our Etape special weekend events, including a post-race barbecue as well as much-needed use of the sauna for all competitors!
Time Megève Mont Blanc
Now in its 10th year, the Time Megève Mont Blanc cyclosportive event has quickly established itself as one of the most prestigious one-day cycling events in the calendar. The 2013 event will take place on Sunday 9th June, when the route starts and finishes in Megève and passes through La Giettaz twice.
Giettoise Bike Week
The Giettoise Bike Week is a week of cycling-themed activities taking place in and around La Giettaz. This year's event runs from Saturday 17th June to Sunday 24th June, with a selection of events catering both for serious cyclists and casual fans alike. The centrepiece of the week will be the 10km time trial climb of the Col des Aravis, taking place on the second Saturday of the week.
