Cycling and Le Tour de France 2010
The French Alps offer some of the finest cycling terrain in the world, and La Giettaz is right at the heart if it, with Le Tour de France passing us this summer! Located only 4km from the famous Col des Aravis, which has featured on the route of Le Tour no less than 39 times, Chalet La Giettaz is an ideal base for cyclists of all levels who wish to experience these iconic mountain roads for themselves.
Le Tour de France 2010
The Tour de France is, quite simply, the top cycling race in the world. The route changes every year, but frequently includes La Giettaz and its surrounds, and on Tuesday July 13th this year, stage 9 took Lance, Alberto, Andy et al over the Col des Aravis and straight through the village.
Time Megève Mont Blanc
Now in its 7th year, the Time Megève Mont Blanc cyclosportive event has quickly established itself as one of the most prestigious one-day cycling events in the calendar. The route starts in Megève and passes through La Giettaz not once, but twice, in each direction over the Col des Aravis.
This year’s race took place on Sunday June 6th, so watch out for details of next year's event around the same time.
Giettoise Bike Week
The Time Megève Mont Blanc kicked off the Giettoise Bike Week event in the village. Running from Saturday 5th to Sunday 13th June, the Bike Week offered a selection of events in and around the village, catering both for serious cyclists and casual fans alike, culminating in a fun pasta party in the centre of the village on Saturday night! Again, watch out for more details of next year's event, coming soon.
Training at Chalet La Giettaz
Outwith these organised events, the area is hugely popular with amateur cyclists, and there are many routes of varying levels of difficulty clearly marked on maps available from the Tourist Office. In addition to the Col des Aravis, the Chalet is also close to both the Col de la Croix-Fry and the Col de la Colombière, with some of the legendary Tour de France climbs, including Alpe d'Huez and the Col du Galibier, just a couple of hours' drive away.
And don’t forget, our hot tub and sauna will be waiting for you to relax those aching muscles at the end of each day!
