How to get to Chalet La Giettaz
One of the charms of La Giettaz lies in its picturesque, off-the-beaten track situation. For this reason, although not essential, we recommend that you have your own car, as public transport services in the area are limited. The village is within walking distance of the chalet but the journey home is uphill - so allow 10 minutes to walk down and 15 minutes to walk back during the summer and slightly longer each way during the winter, when the shortest route is partially snow-covered. Local taxis charge €10 to drop you back at the Chalet.
We do offer a supermarket shopping service for guests who do not want to drive and there is both our private shuttle service and the free village bus that stops directly outside the Chalet for travel to and from the ski lift (where there is also plenty of free parking).
We are pleased to offer flexible arrival and departure days, allowing you to plan your journey in the most cost-effective manner: please contact us for further information.
By Air:
Geneva Airport is approximately 80km from La Giettaz and can be easily reached in little over an hour by car. There is a wide range of flights from many UK airports to Geneva throughout the year. British Airways and Easyjet are the most popular carriers.
Lyon Airport is around 160km, or 2 hours’ drive from La Giettaz. There are fewer connections to the UK than Geneva, but you may find this more suitable.
Some chartered airlines use Chambéry Airport, which is also around 80km from the village.
We recommend using the skyscanner flight search engine for all your air travel requirements.
Car hire is easily arranged at all airports.
For more information about car hire at Geneva Airport, please visit the Chalet La Giettaz Blog.

The famous Eurostar Ski Train runs direct from London to Moutiers, just over 50km from La Giettaz, overnight on Fridays and through the day on Saturdays in as little as six and a half hours. The nearest stations served by France’s excellent TGV network are Annecy and Albertville, both less than one hour’s drive from La Giettaz.
Again, car hire is available at all stations.
Transfers:
We would be delighted to help you arrange private transfers from any of the above airports or train stations.
Our preferred transfer partners are Resort Rides, a British-owned company based in St Gervais, who are friendly, reliable and experienced in driving in Alpine conditions.
Alternatively, if you wish to come by public transport, please let us know, and we will do our utmost to advise you on the best route possible. The Geneva Airport website has information on bus services to Megève and La Clusaz. There is also a direct bus service from the TGV station in Albertville to La Giettaz.
By Road:
La Giettaz is approximately 900km from Calais. Driving on French motorways is generally a very refreshing change from what you may be used to in the UK: the roads are quiet and in good condition, and roadworks are few and far between, although the tolls can be expensive. If you don't fancy doing the journey from and to Calais in one go, please visit our stopovers page for some suggestions on where to spend the night on your way through France.
Please note, it is compulsory for all drivers to carry a warning triangle, replacement bulbs and a high-visibility vest in their vehicle, and snow chains must also be carried during winter months. This applies to rental cars as well as your own vehicle. The AA website has more information on driving regulations in France.
